Trot Lovers Review
Title: Trot Lovers (트로트의 연인) Year: 2014
Number of Episodes: 16
General Description: Jang Joon Hyun (Ji Hyun Woo) and Choi Chun Hee (Jung Eun Ji) are from two different worlds—- obviously needed for a k-drama to even have a plot. Anyways, Jang Joon Hyun is a famous and talented musician, who also happens to despise traditional trot music. While Choi Chun Hee, who is a down-on-her-luck, hardworking girl, also happens to have a gorgeous voice and natural talent for singing trot. Through a series of fortunate events, the two meet, and must work together to make her a star.
Personal Opinion: On a scale of one to cheesy, I would rate this drama as cutesy-cliche. The music in this show was great, and the cast was lovable and funny. But, overall the story was pretty basic and stuck to the average ingredients for a rom-com style drama: the evil but changes her ways rival, psycho-bitch moms, crazy back stories, and the sweet, charming second-lead who doesn’t get a chance. With only 16 episodes, it was pretty short. But, I think the show had a very fun feel overall, and I would re-watch for hilarious side characters and catchy tunes.

Title: K-POP The Ultimate Audition (K-POP 최강 서바이벌)
Year: 2012 Number of Episodes: 14
General Description: Ji Seung-Yeon (Ko Eun-Ah), a boyish looking girl, strives to achieve her dreams of becoming a musician and struggles to achieve her goal when she is kicked out of music school. Her best bet is to try out with her bestie, Ji-Woo (Kwak Yong-Hwan). The catch is the auditions are for new members of the popular boyband m2. The leader of m2 also happens to be Kang Woo Hyun (Park Yoo-Hwan), whom she had the unfortunate pleasure of meeting once before. The show follows Seung-Yoon and her misadventures of trying to hide her identity, while at the same time pursuing her dreams of becoming a hip-hop legend.
Personal Opinion: Overall the show was okay. The episodes alone were pretty cute, and they had some funny moments (like how Mino’s reactions to everything was “DAYYYYUUM”), but the ending and lack of plot really did it in for me. There was not anything major that the characters seemed to accomplish, and the show kind of just ends. I think if there weren’t two episodes missing then the end would not have been such a let-down. Good for watching quickly with a friend, especially if you are in the mood to see some cuties. My favorite part of the show? Park Yoo-Hwan smile dimple. (;
(This show is a part of the Oh Boy! Series of dramas, in which the main cast is filled with good looking gentlemen and popular stars galore.)

Movie Monday: Secretly Greatly
So, this past weekend I was crying over my inability to not watch "The Technicians" aka "The Con Artists" aka 기술자들 on Dramafever this past Saturday. Because of (1) my lack of funds and (2) my serious lack of funds. Basically another action-esque movie about thieves, action and chaos. The movie came out late 2014 in Korea, and early 2015 for some other countries, and was then released for a limited time on Dramafever. While I was crying over my serious lack of Kim Woo-bin and Lee Hyun-woo in my life, the tears subsided as I stumbled upon the k-movie, "Secretly, Greatly". I would not consider myself a Korean movie connoisseur nor a movie expert, but "Secretly, Greatly" was pretty darn good.
"Secretly, Greatly" (its Worldwide English title) is about a North Korean spy named Won Ryu-hwan. He was sent to live secretly in South Korea as a spy, for several years as a village idiot named Dong-gu. He is joined later by Rhee Hae-rang and Rhee Hae-jin, who were comrades from North Korea, sent to live in South Korea as well, as a rock star and a high school student (respectively). The sudden shift in activity with the placement of his comrades as well as other major incidents, lots of action ensues. I will not divulge any more information about the movie in case someone reading this wants to watch it, which I highly suggest.
The movie was fantastic! It had the perfect amount of heartwarming feels, combined with an intriguing plot line, great acting, and on the edge action scenes. The movie stars Kim Soo-hyun, who perfectly transitions from the goofy, not-so-bright Dong-gu to a savant spy within seconds. His acting and character portrayal was pretty fantastic! It also stars Park Ki-woong as Hae-rang, and Lee Hyun-woo as Hae-jin.The movie not only satisfied my secret love for a good action movie, but it also had a really good plot which kept me watching.
After watching the movie I wanted to see what others had to say about it online, and got distracted when I found out that it was based off a webcomic called "Covertness" by Hun. I then used my nerd power and internet saavy to look it up. I have not yet had the chance to get my hands on a copy of the books or read it online. But, from my experience where the originals are always better than the movie versions, I am expecting great things.
If anyone else has seen "Secretly, Greatly" feel free to comment with your opinions, and if you have read the original by Hun please tell me what it is like! I would love to hear from anyone if they are reading this post. And if you want to watch the movie, as of now (March 2015) they have it on Dramafever, so you can watch it for free!! (p.s. if you have watched "The Technicians" as well tell me how it was!)

Study Abroad
Hello people of the internet!
My name is Christine, and I am currently a student Baylor with a concentration in Social Work. My love of languages and for people, has created a desire to work or intern abroad someday.
I am currently studying and taking classes for Spanish and American Sign Language at my University. But, it was too late to enroll in classes when I finally found a language that really intrigues me.
I fell in love with the Korean language (hangul) late 2013. It's history, the pride in the Korean culture that the language represents, and its rich history. The courses for the language are only offered during certain semesters, and because of classes would conflict with every variation of schedules I attempted to create. So, I began the journey of learning on my own.
I have been using various online resources, and some books as well to create my own schedule of studying. I did not realize that there were so many different language learning opportunities within reach! My favorite being Talk to Me In Korean! (I highly recommend for anyone who wants to study Korean)
My love of the language has only deepened, and spread into a love for both the country and its culture. Which is why I would like to study abroad!! Alas, my university does not offer summer programs to study abroad to Korea. Internship and scholarship restraints also get in the way of me being able to study abroad during the semesters.
With my dreams almost out of reach, I found a program called International Studies Abroad. They help connect students with schools around the globe, for study abroad programs throughout the whole year. I can actually visit Korea!!
The last obstacle that I have to overcome is the financial aspect of the trip. Going to Korea would mean so much to me, and will really allow me to put all that studying time to use. I would be able to practice my language skills, and experience the culture and the country first hand. I also have dreams of teaching abroad, and Korea is one of my options for that route. I think that studying abroad for a summer would help get my feet wet, to see if that is something that I would really want to do.
So, that being said, with the help and support of my two best friends I have started an IndiegogoLife campaign. My goal is to reach $5,000 which would cover most of the cost of the trip. I am also working on campus, and saving money to help pay for the trip. If you would like to help me out and be the coolest of the cools, you can donate to my campaign at the link below!

You're Killing Me Midterms
Let's set the scene.
A lonely living room, stacks of textbooks, and highlighters and sticky notes in the hair. The hair bundled in an un-showered mess atop the lazy students head. The student sprawled across a sad-looking sofa while contemplating life. This is the end result of midterms on a fully dedicated student. Common thoughts that are running through your head include but are not limited to:
"Where is my life going?" "I totally messed up that part of the test" "They didn't even teach that material, so how dare they ask me that question" "Who has time to write a 16 page paper when they have to study for 15 million other tests" "When was the last time I ate" "What's that smell....oh it's me" "I should probably shower" "Just kidding, my life is going nowhere, so why should I?"
And so on, and so forth.
These questions will usually continue until the student has finally accepted their "failures" in life, or perhaps some confidences in that one test that was supposed to be hard. They will finally find the confidence to move from the sofa, and depart from their favorite pair of sweatpants that have served as an armor in the great war. This is the life of the college student in midterm season.
This was me this past week studying for my Spanish midterm. You would think that after 2 1/2 years in college would have prepared me. Alas, my innate talent for getting distracted, in addition to my love of k-dramas, and part time job of procrastination, has prepared me to wait til the last minute.
I went to the test and did all that I could, but it was a bloody massacre. It felt like the teacher created the test based off of all my test weaknesses, like he a freaking walk-through that told him the exact moves it would take for me to fail.
There was a section of the exam that was solely quotations pulled from various pieces of spanish literature. I have no problems comprehending the lines picked, and I love spanish in general. None of that is the problem here. My problem is memorization.
As a child I would hide that game Memory so my sister would stop asking me to play because I would lose every time. I can memorize all the lyrics to my favorite songs, but as soon as you ask me what the title is, I am out. I wouldn't be able to tell you even if you were dangling me over a pit of left sharks and this was my last life.
So how in the world am I supposed to tell you the title and author of a piece of literature I have only read once or twice. And these titles are not short either. It is like the authors partnered up with Fall Out Boy and made the most ridiculous, long-ass titles, that no one in their right mind could ever remember.
So basically this exam screwed me over. I am hoping that the essay and vocabulary sections will pull me through, and I should not dwell on the past, but c'mon man!
Anyways, I am currently still in my sweatpants and messy bun phase. And I will get over this exam to move onto real life problems, but right now my armor is what I need.

My Condolences.
I don't need your condolences
your looks of pity as you walk away
just words with no meaning
as soon as they are in my reach
they disappear
no imprint
what help is that?
I need care so overwhelming
that it drags me down
like an anchor to the bottom of the sea
feeling the true weight of your words
your presence
because you could be the sea
which surrounds and comforts
please don't give me your condolences
because
I don't want another little mermaid.
